Description
This is the product of about two weeks' worth of lunch hour doodling and coloring. I made this with Prismacolor Verithin pencils - just the measly little 12-color set - as an exercise in effective use of a limited color range. It's great for practicing a layered approach to coloring, rather than my usual tendency to smash the colors together like clay.
To answer a couple of questions that people have posed:
I did draw this with pencil first. I erased the pencil lines for each section (usually a loop of body or one set of feathers) as I colored. I wanted the dragon to look softer than my inked-and-colored work, and this seemed the best way to do so.
Quick addition: The beastie is my own visualization of the Mayan Quetzlcoatl, or feathered serpent.
