UPDATE All Deviations Are Opted Out of AI Datasets
UPDATE: We heard the community feedback, and now all deviations are automatically labeled as NOT authorized for use in AI datasets. AI generators were trained using datasets collected from the open web. This includes content from creator platforms like DeviantArt, Pinterest, Twitter, and more. This was done without DeviantArt's permission and without your permission. To help prevent your work from being used by third party AI datasets without your consent, we implemented a flag to tell AI datasets not to use your art. All deviations on the platform are not authorized for inclusion in third-party datasets used to train artificial-intelligence models — unless you choose to opt in. DeviantArt has introduced the noai and noimageai directives to unambiguously communicate absence of such authorization. When an artist declares that their content may not be used as input to AI models, an HTML tag with the noimageai directive is placed on the page and an HTTP header with the noai directive

@rachaelm5 Pearwood's Feature Log Steve's suggestions on how to leave a good comment... Tell the artist what caught your eye, something your particularly liked or didn't like. Tell the artist something you think they could have done differently or better. Suggest an alternate title; it tells the artist what you saw in the image. Interact with the artwork, continue its story. Ask the artist how or why they did something. If nothing else, even "Ooh, pretty!" or "Oh, ick!" is a lot more information than no comment at all. Enjoy!

Calling All Creator Platforms to Fight Art Theft
DeviantArt is deeply committed to DeviantArt Protect and our immediate focus continues to be on helping artists safeguard their work by expanding Protect's abilities for identifying potential art infringement, and exploring ways to improve and streamline the takedown process. In the near future, we aim to: Scan more blockchains Decrease the time it takes to detect potential art theft Work with external marketplaces to improve the takedown process Add an additional layer of protection to help thwart malicious bots What's Happening Now? As the NFT (non-fungible token) market explodes, so does the time-old issue of art theft. Unfortunately, many artists and content creators have had their art stolen to be minted and sold as NFTs by imposters trying to make a quick buck. This issue is impacting artists across the web on all platforms where they publish and share their art — including Twitter, ArtStation, DeviantArt, and more. Although DeviantArt is the first platform to

ArtHeart Vol.16: Colored Pencils
HELLO EVERYONE :happybounce:  Welcome to a new edition of my ArtHeart Feature!. This month's topic is: COLORED PENCILS! According to Wikipedia.org, a colored pencil is an art tool made up of a pigmented lead, encased within a cylindrical wooden sleeve. Unlike graphite and charcoal pencils, the lead of colored pencils is made from wax or oil, which contains varying proportions of pigments, additives and binders. Pencils with water-soluble leads (watercolor) and pastel pencils are also manufactured, as well as colored leads for mechanical pencils. Colored pencils vary enormously in terms of quality and usefulness; the concentration of pigments in the lead, the photoresistance of the pigments, the durability of the colored pencil and the smoothness of the lead are some indicators of the quality of a brand and, consequently, of its price. The growing popularity of colored pencils as an art tool prompted the creation of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA)

DeviantArt Protect: Helping Safeguard Your Art
DeviantArt is proud to introduce innovative new technology in our continued effort to help protect our registered artists. DeviantArt Protect, our new state-of-the-art image recognition software, was developed to help safeguard your art in ways that were not possible without recent advances in machine learning. As many artists are aware, copyright infringement is a serious problem. This technology is trained to identify new images that appear nearly visually identical to other images on DeviantArt and allows us to notify you when someone uploads potentially infringing art. The effort that goes into your piece of art is more than simply the time spent creating. The practice, gaining of knowledge, and skill are all evident in the finished product. When DeviantArt sought to utilize machine learning with added human oversight, the goal was to help protect more than just one’s finished work. It's about helping to provide protection around the totality of effort put forth. Helping Protect
