I drew the template for this piece at Grandma's house. She is amused by the fact that I can belt out a dragon like this within a two-hour period. Inking it took quite a bit longer. ;p

Digital PNG file of a pen and ink drawing. The one on the left is the original orientation.

Yes, this one is balanced enough that it might work as a tattoo design. :D Besides, tribal designs and spiky bits never go out of style.

Thank you!

These line drawing projects keep me out of trouble during my lunch break at work, and I *love* seeing how other artists color them. Their color schemes inspire me to try new color schemes that I'd not have thought of otherwise. :-)

The left-hand dragon by itself just wasn't enough. The original sketch I had was from back when I was in college, and my chicken-scratch notes suggested that it would work better as a mirrored pair. Once I fiddled with it a bit in Photoshop, I found that I like the balance of the body shapes and spiky bits much better. It's gonna be a bear to color, though, since I'm the glutton for punishment who uses traditional media. ;p

lol omg I can't even imagine coloring that with pencils! :faint: in fact, after trying Mercy with pencils, then deciding to do it digitaly, thats the way I'm going with any of yours that I try! Totally gonna do that parrot-colored one!

Whadda you mean insidiously complicated? That is the perfect amount of complicated. The mirrored images really make for a fascinating design. If I ever find a spare few hours to color someone else's lineart, I am definitely going to tackle one of yours!

LOL - Okay, "insidiously complicated" could probably be "moderately complicated" for a lot of us. It depends upon how far you get before you go cross-eyed. ;p

I'd love to see what you can do with my lines if you've the time.

LOL - Thanks!

I'm glad she's still around to see how things have progressed over the years. She did quite a bit to get my brain going - she introduced me to a couple of my favorite authors whose creature concepts leak into my work with alarming frequency. ;-) She's a fantastic inspiration, anyway.

Thanks!

The pencil drawing, which was just the left-hand dragon, took about two hours. Inking it took another three or four hours. Scanning and digital clean-up took another hour. :-)

If I'd done it all at once, yes, it would certainly feel like a long time. But I typically spread that time out over several days. I do a lot of my lineart inking during my lunch period at work, so I'm only working for about half an hour at a time over the course of a full work week. :-)
