This was originally going to be a "just for the heck of it" drawing, but as I worked my way through it became more and more complicated... To absolutely no one's surprise, I'm sure. Heh.

Regardless of the complexity of the thing, I was mostly interested in working with the gold paint pen. I don't usually use metallic ink or paint in my work, as I prefer to make the metallic lustre effect with colored pencils. I wanted to see if I could get the same kind of shimmery effect with actual metallic paint. What I found is that while it works just fine when I'm looking at the actual artwork, it does NOT work well in a scanned image. I did some tweaking in Photoshop to try to bring out the "lustre" effect a bit more.

All in all, I think this was a successful experiment. I do still prefer to make my metallic effects with colored pencil, and surprisingly it takes about the same amount of time whether I work with pencil or paint pen!

The eight stone dragons are absolutely beautiful.
You are a god-damn genius with the pen!

Art is the possibility of man to create. Not just something to please the eye. It can be a practical shelter from the storm, culinary delicacies for the taste buds, Dances of pleasure and dances of death. The possibilities for art is endless. Embrace it.

Thanks very much. I really need to get back to this series. I have a whole pile of sketches, but just not enough hours in the day. ;-)

Say, would it be alright if I used this (or another) piece as the desktop background for my computer? If so, are there any guidelines you'd like me to adhere to or anything? This is probably my favorite of your work (there are so many to choose from!) and I would love to stare at it everytime I turn on my computer, but I'll respect your wishes if you say no.

Gold paint pen, yes. Just for the shiny bits. The rest of it is colored pencil. :D
