Finally, this mammoth project is complete.

In the year of our Lord 4046, it falls to Noah's great-great-great (x82) grandson to take with him all of Earth's animals, the original real ones as well as the beautiful, fantastic ones that Mankind has dreamed up. He and his wife gather them all, two by two, and with the city-sized Ark Mark II go to settle on a whole new world.

This is a commission and gift for my good friend Dave S., his wife Jennifer and their daughter Grace. To Grace: Happy very, very belated first birthday. :D

I used a watercolor wash as an underpainting, but the vast majority of the detailing has been done with colored pencil.

I have also uploaded a HUGE version of this picture so that the dozens of creatures can be seen more clearly.

Amazing work, Rachael! The shear amount of detail in this blows my mind. I can't even imagine doing something of this magnitude. It's really inspiring. :> :+fav:

It looks great! If you hadn't included the bright blue leaves on the lower left corner I think the blue in the upper left would have unbalanced the picture. Somehow you did a great job balancing the numerous variety of hues without letting the contrast between them get out of hand. There's a lot going on in the picture but it doesn't seem to be too busy for the eye. Great job!
Thank you very much. I can't figure out how I do this stuff either...

Never in one sitting; I think that's the trick. There's between 80 and 100 hours of work in this piece, spread out over six months or so.
