Predator: Gladiator Salute by rachaelm5 Predator: Gladiator Salute by rachaelm5
This is a requested pic for ~yen-ta's friend Troy.

The Predator is called Sinaru, but simply having his name as the title just didn't tickle my brain. I got to thinking about it, and I decided that he looks like he's in some kind of combat pose, getting ready to hack something into small, bloody bits.

The first idea that popped into my head was "Vogue", with Madonna singing in the background. But that's not very macho, is it?

The second idea, and the one that I decided to go with, was when gladiators say, "We who are about to die salute you!"

So there we go.

Accomplished with ink, watercolor and Prismacolor pencils.

Everythings just wonderful. Lively, colorful, unique. The Predators even get their own skins just like various wild animals, it's so lovely~

Thanks!

The variety of skin colors was something that I really liked about the old Predator action figures. There was a jet-black Predator, and a "lava planet" Predator all in red, and various shades of brown and green with spots. I always thought those were really cool ideas. :D

I'm glad you applied them to your art, the movies do not much bother to get colorful~

LOL - It's really the overabundant detail that drives these designs. I *can* make simpler armor... I simply choose not to. ;p

Thanks. I'd been wanting to play with green and silver armor for a while. I was lucky that the guy who requested this Predator granted me the opportunity. :D

Ohhoo! That weapon in his hand looks funky! It's almost like a tribla sun.. and it also reminds me of these Raptor Claw weapons I found once.. expect that you had to wear those Claws on your fingers.
The colroing work looks absolutely amazing, like always.^:D I didn't expect anything less from you. You're one of my favorite artists, after all!

The armor does look like it's glowing under a light.

Would be pretty odd to see a predator, dancing to Madonna though.

Thanks!

A color job for a picture of this size (about 8x10 inches) takes three to five hours, so I can ususally get it done in one sitting. When I use an all-over, kind of diffuse lighting scheme like I did in this picture, I can use a simple and formulaic approach to the coloring, so it goes comparatively fast. :-)

Yeah, It looks like a fast job, but brilliantly done~!
It looks like a misty-like hazy background~! spiffy!

3-5 hours to color eh? wow... this stuff takes a long time. I never really time myself.
so I dont realize how much time passes by. hmm.

Thanks very much. I'm glad to get this one finished, though it's not the most complicated piece in the latest collection of Predator drawings. Torachande is gonna be the tough one. :D

Oh no, I was simply thinking along the lines of "strike a pose/let's get down to it/strike a pose/there's nothing to it: Vogue"... Which is just naughty and wrong when cross-pollinated into Predator culture. While dancing is something I can see 'em doing, easily, dancing like Madonna just doesn't jive. :giggle:

Now be honest: did you have the tiniest, eensy-weensy, itty-bitty, and most fleeting image of a Predator female with those *brassiere cones* of doom(for lack of a better term)? :omfg:

Sorry...had to go there...

Someone had mentioned that the Predator looked like he should be standing in the moonlight. I thought that was a cool idea, so I tried to keep that kind of a color scheme in mind when I colored his armor. :-)
