Presenting, for the first time online (and with good reason) - the first of the Jazzdragon series! This is a watercolor, ink and colored pencil painting that I did way back in college around 1998. Personally, I think I got carried away with the black comet thing, and I honestly don't know what I was thinking at the time. It almost certainly should have been something bright and shiny. But it's black, and it ruins an otherwise passable piece of art.

In spite of this piece's shortcomings, I thought you all might enjoy seeing where this series got started.

I was inspired by the dancing crocodiles in Dance of the Hours on Fantasia for the motion of this dragon, and I believe I had been listening to jazz by Chuck Mangione at the time I did the initial sketch.

Original artwork: available - $125.

Prints: not available.

The black comet looks great to me! And, I'm generally not into dark things.
My god, that's amazing. All those tiny stars, all that detail...

His legs are in the right places - it's his whole spinal column that's all twisty-turny. Jazzdragons are very, very limber - they can stretch and flex and bend like rubber.

I have modified the design somewhat over the last several Jazzdragon projects. They're still very flexible, but the movements are a bit more realistic. :D
