Distant Star

I'm really jazzed about this one - it's one of the pictures that I needed to get finished for DragonCon. I wasn't sure if the shiny bits and the color-vibration bits would work out all together. They ended up working out very well indeed.

Color vibration is what you get when you put two very different colors that have the same gray-scale value close to each other. They fight for dominance as you look at them; as a result, they almost appear to vibrate in and out of focus. I find it difficult to work on that kind of color scheme for too long - I end up getting a headache!

I actually did the colored pencil work all in one sitting today - about 9 hours. Yes, my hand is killing me. Time for a lunch break.
