Commissioned Project Information

I will engage in Commissioned Projects.  I will create artwork for your personal use to hang in your home or at your business, or I will create artwork for you to use on your product or on your promotional material.  

Any Commissioned Project that will be applied to a commercial endeavor or product will be done under contract.  Prices for such projects vary widely, so please email me (wingsoflightning at yahoo dot com) or send me a Note for details.  For example, if I create an image that you will use as the album cover for a music CD you’re selling, we will write a contract together that will explain how the artwork will be used for your CD, and how I may use the artwork separately from the CD (for limited edition prints, or similar).  We will explain the project details and how I will be paid for the work, due dates for each phase of the project, etc.

***You have the option of purchasing the original artwork created for your commercial project.  This will be handled as a separate sale item, but may be included in the contract that we write.  If you do purchase the original artwork, we will write into the contract whether or not you may continue to use that artwork in a commercial manner for projects beyond that which was in the original contract.

Any Commissioned Project that is for your own personal use will be handled via email (which I prefer) or phone conversation.  I will write up a contract for you if you so desire to describe the project parameters, due dates and payment.  I will show you periodic updates on the progress of your project as I work on it.

What I like to draw:  Dragons and other fantastic creatures, monsters, aliens, characters (original and fan-art).  I stick to a “PG-13” or lower rating for most of my work.  I tend to think in “kid-friendly” terms.

What I WILL NOT draw:  Porn of any kind, overly gory violence, heavy-duty mecha, automotives, ordinary portriature, real-world celebrities.

What mediums I like to use:  Pen and ink, markers, watercolor/gouache, colored pencil (Prismacolor or Polychromos), some acrylic paints.  Digital art is still very experimental for me.  I'll use Photoshop, but don't expect masterpieces for several more years yet.

What mediums I WILL NOT use:  Chalk pastels, oil or alkyd paints.

Payment for Projects and Prints:  I accept personal checks, money orders, and PayPal at this time.  For large projects, I will expect half of the payment when you approve the pencil drawing and half upon completion, before I send you the finished Project.  For medium and small projects, I expect all payment upon approval of the pencil drawing.  

Small projects include 6x9 inch images and 8x10 inch images.
Medium projects include 9x12 inch images and 11x14 inch images.
Large projects are anything over 11x14 inches.

Specifics:
6x9 inch image:  $45.  
8x10 inch image: $75.  
9x12 inch image: $125.  
11x14 inch image: $165.  

Larger projects (or projects with unususal dimensions):  contact me via email or Note.  I have no problem with large/unusual project dimensions, but I will have to price such a project individually.

Note on Prices:  The above figures are my baseline prices for original artwork that I will send to you.  I am open to variations in project dimensions, mediums, etc.  I will also mat and/or frame your artwork if you would like, but this will be a separate fee.  Shipping prices will also be increased accordingly, as matting and framing add some weight to the package.  Please email or Note me with questions.

Note on project types:  An inked project is artwork is fully rendered with black ink.  A colored project is artwork fully rendered with any of the color mediums that I like to use.  You may choose whether the artwork is ink-only or colored.  You also may specify the color mediums if you want to, but I like to have the freedom to choose what I think will make the artwork look best.  I put the same amount of time and energy into my fully-rendered inked projects that I do my colored projects; the prices for either type are the same.

Note on shipping: All prices for commissioned artwork include shipping fees within the United States.  Artwork will be mailed FLAT.  Remember that if you want me to mat and frame your artwork, then ship it, extra fees will apply.

If you need me to ship artwork outside of the United States, I will recalculate the shipping for your project.  If you have any questions, please ask.

Limited Edition Reproductions or "Prints" of Original Artwork

I will sell you prints of most of my original artwork.  Please contact me via email (wingsoflightning at yahoo dot com) or Note me for information about print availability.  Currently, I offer the following:

Small prints matted to 8x10 inches for $15, shipping inclusive.
Medium prints matted to 11x14 inches for $30, shipping inclusive.
Large prints matted to 16x20 inches for $50, shipping inclusive.  This size is not available for all images.

I do not use DA's print services at this time.  The prints I have are limited edition, archival reproductions that I create with my Epson 2200 printer.  Each one is numbered and signed.  Each is matted and will be sent to you in a plastic baggie with a hanging tab on the back.  You may either frame the print yourself or hang it as is.  

Tee-shirt iron-on designs: These are still somewhat experimental.  I've had good luck with color retention as long as I wash the shirts in the gentle cycle and then hang them to dry.  I use opaque iron-on transfer material so I can put the design on a shirt of any color.  The maximum size I can do is 8x10 inches.
