This year, Christmas equals an ACEO splurge. This is a wee bit of art for one of my family members.

...What really, really amuses me is that my 5-year-old niece ASKED for a flying squid. When her reading skills are up to it, I'm gonna introduce her to the glorious weirdness that is the Cthulhu Mythos...

Created with ink, watercolor, interference acrylics, gel pens, shiny bits, and small pearls.

Original art: gifted

A flying squid is actually one of the more terrifying things that could exist. Think of them dropping down from the sky onto your head with their chomping-squid-beaks. Even small squids are pretty vicious.

On an aside, I intend to similarly corrupt my niece. She's already had a glimpse of the Cthulhu Mythos--she was over once and was asking questions about all my sculptures, including the Cthulhu idols and a "pickled" Cthulhu fetus in a jar I made some time ago. She refers to Cthulhu now as "Mr. Pickle." Once she's a little older I will corrupt her further (I already turned her into a fan of spiders, I'm sure it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to include cosmic horrors...)

I think it's just the very concept of both tentacles and wings on the same creature that is terrifying. The human mind is conditioned to not put them in the same conceptual context... I'm glad to know that you have a small child to corrupt as well. We'll have to pass on the mantle one day. :D
